never the less.. i did my best to include the things that any ordinary person should know about YouTube..
I probably would have been able to come up with something better if we had enough time.
This was done for an internal newspaper of an organization (Ranade Insititue, Pune)
Ok here it is :
I could hardly believe my ears!My eyes popped out, eye brows shot skywards, smile crashed into an open mouthed frown, in fact my jaw fell down, when I heard my friend Anjali shoot back a question: "What tube???" in response to my question: "Did you check out that HEY CLIP on YouTube??"
I stared at her for few moments to check out if she really means it or if my leg is being pulled. With both my feet firmly on the ground still, I realized that Anjali, did not have any clue about YouTube at all!! I was floored, swept and it was all totally unbelievable!
"Anjali, YouTube is the hottest- video sharing website with good video quality at surprisingly fast speeds of loading a video!" I said while I cleared my throat, as I blinked my eyes, ironed my forehead and tried successfully to suppress my laughter into a smile!
"Oh you mean, that company which Google recently bought for over 1.5 billion US Dollars??" she asked brushing her golden hair, smiling at her own fair cheeked dimple, looking more often in her pocket mirror than any place else. "I heard there are movie scenes and music videos"
"Yes, you are right! Free of cost upload, great quality, nice speed, rich features like ratings, favorites channels, and comment's features with option of including a video as well. There are even some entire length movies and songs. The other day I was viewing Dil Chahta Hain. And millions of videos that common people have created"
"OH! That sounds great!" She said still playing with her hair and brush.
"Yeah, Its redefining the meaning of celebrity! Any one can become popular and famous now!" I said.
"What do you mean?" I could tell that I was now having much of her attention.
"It means that you can sit at your home and come up one wonderful media, shot at home with webcam and be a celebrity"
The mirror and comb quickly disappeared in the purse, the dream filled eyes started to glitter, and sudden surge of curiosity took over her as she put hands under her chin as she asked with her wide eyes and enchanting smile for more..
"Anjali, let me give you and example: In August 05 Tasha and Dishka- two ordinary girls from Israel lip-synced a rock song called as "Hey" and put its cool video on YouTube. This video has been view for over thirteen million times ( 13,163,790 to be precise) and has almost about ten thousand comments (9,874) and it has been favorite for 20,446 people and is rated with 3.5 points out of 5 by 37,943 viewers! They did this all at home! They just video filmed themselves singing and dancing in their own bedroom with an ordinary digital video camera!"
Now it was her turn! Her eye balls popped, eye brows rocketed skyward, mouth was wide open frown (because of the fallen jaw) and I could clearly see that she did not believe what I had just said to her! And, I, of course smiled ear to ear!
"This is just one example Anjali, you know there are literally thousands of celebrities all over YouTube. Another celebrity I like is Juan Mann, who started the free hugs epidemic and became a YouTube celebrity apart from making his FREE HUGS a global sensation!"
"Anjali I was thinking… Hey what happened? Where are you going?" I asked while she packed her purse, stood up and started walking..
"WE are going.." This beauty smiled a very different smile; looking back half way, placing her lovely hair behind her ears, away from her dimpled cheek, speaking more through her gaze which came from the corner of her eyes, than the words she said: "..on YouTube"
I smiled back to her cuz you know.. Its so very lovely to have such a beautiful angel around!
YouTube proved to be a blessing in my life, in yet another way! ;)
